Your program

Four paths to medical weight loss, one medical team

Every path starts with the same consultation and labs. Your prescribing physician then recommends the path that fits your health, your history and how much support you want.

Healthy high-protein meal, water and weights supporting a GLP-1 weight loss plan
01

Semaglutide

A once-weekly GLP-1 injection. The most established option and the usual starting point.

How it works: a weekly self-injection, with the dose raised gradually over about 16 weeks around how you feel.

Who it's for: adults with a BMI of 30+, or 27+ with a condition like high blood pressure, prediabetes or sleep apnea.

02

Tirzepatide

A once-weekly dual GIP and GLP-1 injection, with the strongest average results in clinical trials.

How it works: a weekly self-injection, stepped up in stages by your physician.

Who it's for: patients who meet the same criteria and want more appetite control, or who plateaued on semaglutide.

03

Metabolic Reset

A medication-free medical track built on labs, nutrition, protein targets and strength guidance.

How it works: comprehensive labs, a written nutrition plan and regular check-ins.

Who it's for: anyone who isn't a GLP-1 candidate or prefers a structured plan without medication.

04

Maintenance & Taper

How you come off medication matters as much as how the weight came off.

How it works: a gradual dose reduction with progress tracking, protein, resistance training and sleep.

Who it's for: patients who've reached their goal and want to reduce or stop medication without regaining.

Physician consulting with a patient about GLP-1 weight loss medication

Your prescribing physician

Prescribed and monitored by a board-certified M.D.

GLP-1 medications are prescription-only. TruSpine partners with Dr. Crystal Broussard, M.D., board certified in internal medicine and a prescribing provider in the Asher Med network, specializing in functional medicine, anti-aging and weight management.

Dr. Broussard reviews your history and labs, chooses your medication and dose, and adjusts your plan at every check-in. Our chiropractic, acupuncture and recovery team supports the rest of your body along the way.

How it works

How our GLP-1 weight loss program works

A clear process with no surprises, handled start to finish by the same care team.

  1. Step 1

    Medical consultation

In person or by video. Your physician reviews your history, goals and what you've tried, then confirms whether a GLP-1 is right for you. No pressure to start medication.

  2. Step 2

    Labs & a written plan

Baseline labs as needed (metabolic panel, A1c, thyroid, lipids) and measurements. You get your medication, starting dose and schedule in writing.

  3. Step 3

    Delivered to your door

Your medication ships directly to your home. Our online education portal then walks you step by step through unpacking, storing and giving your first injection, at your own pace.

  4. Step 4

    Monthly check-ins

Progress reviewed, dose adjusted and side effects managed every month, with a taper planned before you finish.

What to expect

Your first year on a GLP-1

Starting dose

Week 1

Your medication arrives at home and the online education portal guides you through your first injection. The starting dose is low on purpose, and most patients notice less appetite within the first week.

Titration

Weeks 2–16

Your dose steps up about every four weeks. Mild nausea is most common now, and your care team is a message away through the portal.

Steady loss

Months 4–12

In the STEP 1 trial, adults on semaglutide 2.4 mg lost about 15% of body weight on average over 68 weeks. In SURMOUNT-1, tirzepatide reached about 21% at 72 weeks. Individual results vary.

Maintenance

Year 2 and beyond

Once you reach your goal, your taper is planned together. Protein, strength training and continued check-ins help keep the weight off.

GLP-1 weight loss FAQs

Does TruSpine offer medical weight loss with GLP-1 medications?

Yes. TruSpine offers a physician-supervised GLP-1 weight loss program in San Francisco with semaglutide and tirzepatide, prescribed by Dr. Crystal Broussard, M.D., a board-certified internal medicine physician. Visits are available in person or by video.

How do GLP-1 medications cause weight loss?

Semaglutide and tirzepatide mimic gut hormones that slow stomach emptying and signal fullness to the brain. Appetite drops, portions shrink and cravings quiet down. Tirzepatide also activates a second hormone pathway (GIP), which is one reason its trial results were stronger.

Semaglutide or tirzepatide: which is right for me?

Semaglutide is the more established option and the usual starting point. Tirzepatide produced greater average weight loss in clinical trials and is often chosen for patients with more to lose or who plateau on semaglutide. Your physician recommends one after reviewing your labs and history.

Am I a candidate for GLP-1 weight loss?

Most adults with a BMI of 30 or higher qualify, as do those with a BMI of 27 or higher plus a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, high cholesterol or sleep apnea. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2 rules GLP-1s out, as do pregnancy and planned pregnancy. A history of pancreatitis needs careful review. Your consultation confirms whether it's safe for you.

How do I get my medication and learn to inject it?

Once your physician prescribes it, your semaglutide or tirzepatide ships directly to your home. We enroll you in our online education portal, which walks you step by step through unpacking, storing and giving your weekly injection. Questions along the way go to your care team through the portal.

What are the side effects of semaglutide and tirzepatide?

Nausea, constipation and fatigue are the most common, usually during dose increases, and usually manageable with slower titration and simple diet changes. Serious side effects are rare but real, which is why labs come first and follow-up is monthly.

Is it the same as Ozempic, Wegovy or Zepbound?

Ozempic® and Wegovy® are brand names for semaglutide, and Zepbound® and Mounjaro® are brand names for tirzepatide. Depending on your coverage and needs, your physician may prescribe a brand-name medication or a compounded version from a licensed U.S. pharmacy. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and your physician will explain the difference before you decide.

How much does medical weight loss cost? Does insurance help?

Cost depends on the medication you're prescribed and the length of your program. You'll receive a full quote at your consultation before anything is prescribed. Some insurance plans cover brand-name GLP-1 medications for weight loss and many don't; your physician will talk through your options.

How long will I be on medication?

Many patients stay on a GLP-1 for about 12 to 18 months, then taper. Some choose a low maintenance dose longer term. Your physician plans the taper with you so you're prepared for life after medication.

What happens when I stop taking a GLP-1?

Appetite returns, and studies show much of the weight can come back when medication stops abruptly. That's why our Maintenance & Taper track reduces your dose gradually alongside protein targets, resistance training and continued check-ins.

Will I have loose skin after GLP-1 weight loss?

Fast weight loss can leave loose or crepey skin, especially on the belly, arms, thighs and face. Protein, strength training and hydration help, and we offer T-Shape 2 skin tightening to help firm and smooth skin during or after your program.
