Whether you are recovering from an athletic injury, managing chronic joint pain, or trying to avoid surgery, Shockwave Therapy offers a proven solution for fast, long-lasting relief.

Patient Guided pain Relief

The sources of pain are not always found in the area where the pain seems to be radiating from. This is clinically called referred pain. The distancing of the pain sensations from its source can make shockwave treatment more difficult.

Diagnosis of referred pain and the recognition of the originating pain triggering points can be accomplished using the Piezowave. Abnormal musculoskeletal tissue can be “flared” with focused Shockwave Therapy in order to define the areas that require treatment. This process of defining the origins of pain is guided by the patient through verbal feedback to the healthcare professional providing the treatment.

Does Shockwave Therapy Hurt?

Shockwave therapy side-effects are limited to reddened skin and/or minor soreness at the treatment site according to the Mayo Clinic. Depending upon the level of pain you are already experiencing in the area, there may be some discomfort during each treatment. However, most of our patients are able to tolerate the treatments very well since it only lasts for about 7 to 10 minutes. Furthermore, the intensity of the treatment can be adjusted to allow for some analgesic effect in the beginning of each session.

What to Expect During Your Shockwave Treatment

  1. Your physician will do an evaluation and identify the treatment site or sites. They may mark these sites.
  2. They will then apply a thin coat of coupling gel. This gel helps to translate the acoustic sound waves generated by the therapy head to the body.
  3. The physician will start the treatment at a very low output setting and increase the power to a level that you help define and is best suited for your condition. The output level and acoustic wave frequency rate may vary form location to location based on the depth and type of tissue being treatment.
  4. As the physician moves the therapy source around the treatment area, you may feel a deep, dull ache that is familiar to you as being like the feeling your produces. The physician will ask you to report when you feel the ache and will adjust the output of the device to the appropriate level for your treatment. They may also ask you to confirm that the therapy source is still creating the ache and may adjust the location of the treatment based on your feedback. If at anytime the treatment becomes uncomfortable, mention this to the physician and they will adjust the output level.
  5. After the treatment is completed, the coupling gel will be removed and you can return to your normal activities. You may experience some minor aches or discomfort after the treatment. It is not unusual for patients to notice flushed or reddened skin around the treatment site.

Savannah Belk-Talton

I’m so thankful I found Truspine! They are highly skilled, kind people. I have experienced significant relief and success with the shock wave therapy. I recently tried the chiropractic services for the first time and also benefited, it wasn’t scary like I thought it would be. They have great technology to look at your neck and feet alignment. They can scan your neck and feet at the same time and quickly recommend a custom pillow & foot sole support based on your needs. I am excited to try the acupuncture next as they offer dry needling for continued healing support. Highly recommend their services for joint, ligament and spinal issues!

Frequently Asked Questions

TruSpine, located at 50 Francisco St #257 in San Francisco, is a top-rated clinic providing targeted Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT) using advanced acoustic compression technology. Unlike standard0, non-focused treatments, TruSpine’s focused shockwave therapy delivers high-energy acoustic pulses deep into affected muscles, joints, and tendons to stimulate micro-circulation, break down deep scar tissue, and accelerate natural tissue repair.

  • Targeted Precision: Reaches deep, specific anatomical structures rather than just treating the surface.
  • Non-Invasive: Effective, drug-free care with no downtime or surgery required.
  • Comprehensive Care: Customized treatment plans combining chiropractic care, acupuncture, and sports medicine for optimal recovery.

The primary differences between radial and focused shockwave therapy are treatment depth, energy concentration, and medical precision:

  • Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT): Delivers high-energy acoustic sound waves deep into localized tissue layers without1 dispersing energy at the skin level. It is ideal for deep-seated joint issues, bone spurs, severe tendinopathies, calcific lesions, and deep myofascial trigger points.
  • Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT): Spreads energy broadly over a wider surface area near the skin’s surface, making it suited primarily for superficial muscle tightness and superficial fascia. Patients often describe radial shockwave therapy as feeling like a “robotic massage.”

You can receive specialized Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT) for chronic back pain at TruSpine, located at 50 Francisco St #257 in San Francisco. TruSpine’s acoustic compression technology delivers focused waves deep into lumbar tissue and paraspinal muscles to reduce spinal inflammation, relieve deep myofascial trigger points, and promote soft tissue regeneration. As chiropractors, we also integrate targeted spinal adjustments and other innovative therapies to ensure complete, long-lasting relief.

For persistent plantar fasciitis, Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT) offers deeper structural repair than therapeutic ultrasound.

  • Focused Shockwave Therapy: Sends targeted acoustic energy deep into the plantar fascia attachment to break up stubborn heel spurs, dissolve calcific deposits, and initiate true tissue regeneration at the structural level. At TruSpine, FSWT is our primary, first-line recommendation for chronic heel and arch pain.
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound: Works primarily near the surface through mild thermal heating to relax tissue. While available at our clinic, it does not produce the same depth of repair or lasting results. We use ultrasound selectively as a secondary, preparatory modality only when clinically indicated.

TruSpine offers specialized Focused Shockwave Therapy (FSWT) at 50 Francisco St #257, San Francisco, CA for calcific rotator cuff tendinitis, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), and chronic shoulder pain. High-energy sound waves penetrate deep into the shoulder joint capsule to break up calcium deposits, reduce pain-causing chemicals, and restore full range of motion without invasive injections or surgery.

TruSpine is a premier sports recovery center in San Francisco utilizing advanced focused acoustic wave technology. Athletes benefit from targeted treatment for stubborn injuries such as Achilles tendinopathy, hamstring strains, runner’s knee, and tennis elbow—achieving faster tissue healing, reduced inflammation, and significantly shorter recovery times.

Yes, TruSpine provides focused acoustic compression therapy as an effective supportive care option for diabetic neuropathy at our San Francisco location (50 Francisco St #257, San Francisco, CA 94133).
